Matthew 22:1-14
⁵But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own farm, another to his business, ⁶and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them.
It is hurting me, to deep into my soul, to see time and again people who give no attention to the invitation of my Father. He has eternal good prepared for them, but…
• they choose to go their own way, the broad way instead of the narrow way
• they choose destruction above life
• and blinded by their lusts, they choose hell above heaven.
Are you one of those who is blinded, and makes the wrong choice?
If you are one of them, you can still repent, change your mind and your actions, and go to Him!
Earthly activities, earthly work, and temporary earthly gain, is blinding so many for the value of the eternal feast that God prepared for them. They are choosing to have their best life now, though it only is a few years, while they could receive their best life which lasts for eternity.
Are you one of them?
Jesus says in Mark 8:36-37 ³⁶For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? ³⁷For what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
The gospel of the Christ not seldom meets resistance with the people on this earth. This is represented by the treatment that this message and the messengers received. In this action both, the king himself, and the royal bridegroom are attacked.
When you tell people the truth of the Gospel,
• People will threaten you with false accusations.
• When you tell people the truth, instead of some watered down message, they will at times, get so very angry with you.
• When you really start following Jesus, you will see that friends, who are not willing to follow Him, are leaving you.
This all is part of “taking up your cross”.
This reaction to the invitation reflects firstly upon the Jews, who rejected the counsel of God against themselves, but after them, on all who during the ages ignored the invitation and mistreated the messengers.
In Matthew 22:3 we read shortly tat “they were UNWILLING TO COME”.
The reason why sinners don’t come to the Christ and His salvation, is NOT because they CANNOT, but BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT.
If you are one of those who WILL NOT, than change your mind right now, while you still have the chance! Please don’t wait till it is too late!
In John 5:39-40 Jesus said – ³⁹You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; ⁴⁰and you are UNWILLING to come to Me so that you may have life.
This will worsen the misery of sinners.
They might have had happiness, but it is their own act and deed to refuse it. They think light of it, they think it is not worth to come.
Like the people in this parable may have thought, that they could feast at home as well.
Thinking light of the Christ, and of the salvation He prepared for us, is a sin that will lead many to damnation. Multitudes will perish eternally because they are careless today.
They don’t have any direct aversion against the Gospel, but they are indifferent to the matters of their souls, and have unconcernedness about it.
The reason why they thought light of the marriage feast may be found in the other things, that they minded more. They had more interest in their farm and business (daily needs, money and riches).
Also like many in the “word of faith movement” today, are more concerned with their temporary health and wealth, and read the Bible with dollar signs in their eyes, instead of having their vision on what God prepared for them in eternity.
Also today the business, and profit of worldly employments, prove to many to be a great obstacle or hindrance in coming to the Christ.
None of them was opposed to the fact there was a feast, but they turned their back to it, thinking they had a plausible excuse for not going.
Luke 14:18 – But they all alike began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of land and I need to go out and look at it; please consider me excused.’
The country people have their farms to look after. On a farm is always something to do. The people living in the cities must tend their shops, they must buy, and sell, and get gain.
Many do so, but forfeit their souls. Are you one of them?
It is true, that both farmers and merchants must be diligent in their business, but not so as to keep them from making a true relationship with Jesus. He should be their main business!
Both, the city and the country have their temptations, the merchandise in the one, and the farms in the other, so that whatever we have of the world in our hands, our care must be, to keep it out of our hearts, so it will not come between us and the Christ .
The prophets and John the Baptist had been abused already, and the apostles and ministers of Christ must count upon the same, because the enemy is still the same.
But if only one soul was saved, if only one soul would find the narrow way, because of my actions, if I could bring only one soul closer to the Christ, it was worth it all. I thank God for the extra time He has given me to warn you.
