Matthew 13:3
And he spake many things unto them
in parables, saying,
Behold, a sower went forth to sow
Devotional
A sower went out to sow.
The sower is the heavenly Husbandman.
The seed that is sown is the Word of God that is being preached.
▪︎ The Word that speaks of eternal good and eternal woe.
▪︎ The Word that speaks of salvation and calamity.
The heavenly Husbandman is waiting for, and looking for fruits.
The seed ends up in different places.
Some of the seed falls by the road. The birds came and ate it. This refers to hearers of the Word who are completely unmoved by what they heard. Hell does not terrify them, and heaven does not refresh them.
Unmoved they travel on to eternity.
How much seed have you already received?
Another part of the seed falls on stony places. It rises immediately, but the sun burns it. It has no root and withers. This speaks of light-hearted hearers. Immediately there is joy, they know not of battle. They can just take anything for themselves. There is no depth. When tribulation and persecution comes, they are immediately offended. Then it becomes visible that they were only temporary believers.
How is it with you?
