Mark 8:29 (AV)
And he saith unto them,
But whom say ye that I am?
And Peter answereth
and saith unto him,
Thou art the Christ.
It is all about Simon Peter’s confession in this text, when the Lord is with them in the parts of Caesarea Philippi.
The Lord has asked His disciples who people say that He is. Several answers are apparently possible. John, Elijah, or one of the prophets. Great men, yes, but it is not what the Lord wants and must hear.
Who do you say I am?
That is the Lord’s personal question.
He also asks this to you and me today.
Who do you say He is?
Do we actually know Him?
Do we know Him, as He is sent into the world from the Father, as the only Name under heaven given for salvation?
Precious is the confession of Peter, when he confesses:
▪︎ You are the Christ.
▪︎ You are the Messiah,
▪︎ You are the Father’s Anointed One.
▪︎ You are the Promised One, who was of old, promised to the fathers.
▪︎ You are the supreme Prophet,
▪︎ You are the only High Priest
▪︎ You are the eternal King.
Flesh and blood did not reveal this to Peter, but the Father who is in heaven has made this clear to him.
Blessed if you may know Him in this way, through such teaching.
