Joel 3:4
Moreover, what are you to Me,
(what have ye to do with me)
O Tire, Sidon and all the regions of Philistia?
Are you rendering Me a recompense?
But if you do recompense Me,
swiftly and speedily I will return
your recompense on your (own) head.
In other words:
What have ye to do with me? You have no connection with Me (or with My people), I (that is, My people) have given you no cause of quarrel, why then do ye trouble Me (that is, My people)? (Compare the same phrase in, Joshua 22:24, Judges 11:12, 2 Samuel 16:10, and Matthew 8:29).
Tire, Sidon, Palestine
Tire, Sidon, Palestine (Amos 1:6, 9), if ye recompense me; If ye injure Me (My people), in revenge for your wrongs (Ezekiel 25:15-17), I will requite you in your own coin swiftly and speedily.
The neighboring nations shall be particularly reckoned with.
Tire, and Sidon, and all the coasts of Palestine, or the Philistines, who have been troublesome neighbors to Israel.
He takes the cause of His own in His hand, against the enemy, as though the injury were done to Himself.
The more remote nations, who helped forward the affliction, shall not be passed by!
Zechariah 1:15
But I am very angry with the nations
who are at ease;
for while I was only a little angry,
they furthered the disaster.
Note that little persecutors shall be called to account as well as the great ones; and, though they could not do much mischief, they shall be reckoned with, according to the wickedness of their endeavors, and the mischief they would have done.
Are you rendering Me a recompense?
Have I done you wrong, that you will render me the same?
if you do recompense Me, swiftly and speedily I will return your recompense on your own head.
So what happens to and with His own concerns Him.
This is so because He has linked His Name to His own. And because He looks after them in eternal mercy.
And whatever happens to them or to them, they will never fall out of His hand.
What an encouragement!
Do you not see much of this in your life or perhaps not on the world terrain?
Does it seem as if governments, as if the nations, are in charge?
Does it seem as if the Church is only very small and insignificant in most people’s eyes? Maybe in your eyes too?
To that, in many eyes, great and predominant people, God says: “What do you have to do with Me, do you think you can exalt yourself against Me?
Friends, don’t forget: God rules!
