Zechariah 4:6
‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts.
After the crucifixion of the Christ, it became clear that the disciples still had a wrong idea of why Jesus had come to this world. They still thought that He would chase the Romans out of their country, and that He would be a king like David was.
This wrong idea caused disappointment and despair.
They said:
Luke 24:21
“We were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel.”
Jesus DID deliver all who believed in Him, but not by might or power like David did, but by His Spirit He would influence the whole world and set free all those who accepted His invitation to the wedding-feast.
Also today, there are many who still have wrong ideas about what the Gospel really is.
▪︎ Daily I am confronted with confused people who rather put their trust in some self-appointed “prophet”, than in the living Christ.
▪︎ Daily I am confronted with confused people who blinded by their leaders, don’t see the eternal value of what God has done for us, but rather limit these blessings to their temporary life on this earth.
▪︎ Daily I am confronted with confused people who are blinded to what God tells us in the Bible, and who, trying to prove to me that they are right, mention numbers of Bible references, which usually have nothing to do with what they say, and sometimes even say the opposite.
▪︎ I strongly advise you to NEVER blindly follow any man, whatever title he may have, or have given to himself, but ONLY follow Jesus!
▪︎ I strongly advise you to read your Bible, so you will be aware when someone tries to make you believe in lies.
Sometimes these lies are very obvious, but still many fall for them. To give you an example:
“You must follow prophet ………. , and believe in him, for only he can open the door to heaven for you! See John 1:12 !”
In John 1:12 we read:
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,
The “Him” in this verse is not speaking of some self-appointed “prophet”, but of Jesus, the Son of God!
Other times the lies are very tricky.
That is why you need to know yourselves what is written.
After Jesus had died there was anguish, despair, and tragedy in the midst of the disciples. Jesus told them at different occasions that He would rise again, but they gave no attention to it.
Because of this they didn’t have the right vision, and had life lost its meaning and purpose for them. Only when the resurrection became apparent, life took on a new meaning for them. It had purpose and reason again.
When David Livingstone once addressed a group of students at Glasgow University, it was clear for his audience that he was marked by the struggles he had in Africa.
Several illnesses that attacked him on nearly 30 occasions had there influence on his strength and his health, while his left arm, crushed by a lion, hung limp by his side.
After describing his trials and tribulations, he said to his audience: “Would you like to know what helped me through all these years of exile among people whose language I could not understand, and whose attitude toward me was always uncertain and often hostile?”
It were these words, ‘Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.’ (Matthew 28:20) I held on to these words, and they never failed.”
Prayer suggestions
▪︎ Thank the Lord that He is still working in this world through His Spirit.
▪︎ Thank the Lord that He will never leave you alone.
▪︎ Thank the Lord for His love and grace.
