Matthew 7:21-23 NASB
²¹Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
²²Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ ²³And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’

Cursing in the Church?
Do not use God’s Name in vain – You already knew that according to the third commandment you are not allowed to curse.
So we don’t have to talk about that today (I hope you keep this commandment, because God takes transgression very seriously).
But you know where perhaps the most transgressions against this commandment can be found? In the church!
“Thou shalt not use the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”
Vain, that is: unnecessary, meaningless, just like that, for appearances.
Now, of course, the name of the Lord is nowhere more used than in the church and by church people. That’s the way it is supposed to be.
But how often is that vain, for appearances? Not meant?
Today’s Bible passage talks about that.
I read somewhere that the people we are talking about in these verses, use the Name of God, in two verses (21/22) seven (!) times. But it’s in vain, unnecessary, for nothing.
- It is easy to talk about God, but it is more important to do His will!
- Do your actions match what you say, or do they actually contradict God and His Name?
A question to think about carefully, and to really call on His Name over – also in the church!
