Micah 3:1 KJV
And I said, Hear, I pray you,
O heads of Jacob,
and ye princes (magistrates or judges)
of the house of Israel;
Is it not for you (Is it not your special function (Jeremiah 5:4,5))
to know judgment (justice)?
Then I spoke to the leaders: Listen to me, I said. You are the leaders of Jacob’s people, you are the rulers of Israel. You ought to know what is right or wrong.
Micah addresses the leaders of the people here, the heads of Jacob. Politicians, judges, generals, the king’s court, the king himself.
He tells them what their calling is.
They should lead the people in justice.
Indeed by virtue of their office they should know the law of God, and from it justice as well as righteousness. They should know and loving it, and organize their justice, and administration accordingly.
But they don’t know the law. They don’t care. In fact, they hate good and they love evil. Injustice is promoted and approved by the state.
Sadly, Micah must testify of them that they hate good and love evil.
Is it better in our days?
Certainly not! Even now our governments may be asked: Is it not appropriate for you to know? But the problem is that God’s justice had to make way for what is good and right in their own eyes, and in the eyes of the people.
When this happens, things quickly go from bad to worse.
▪︎ Think of abortion and euthanasia practices,
▪︎ Think of free sexual morality, which has now gone so far as to promote immorality.
Such a government is a judgment of God on the sins of the people.
Again, only one thing is needed for the church and people: They must return to God!
To the yoke of the Christ, so that the country may again receive a government that loves justice. The right of God…!
As long as the governments continue on their own chosen paths, instead of the way that God designates, as long as the people choose these kind of blind leaders over them, the leaders will lack wisdom, and will wreak havoc on their foolish decisions to the land and to the people.
Many of the leaders of the people are no longer called by God these days, but chosen by people who want to see their own will implemented through them.
The leaders of the people should use the commandment of God to guide their government. The government should perform its work as a servant of God for the good of the people.
But many governments have closed the door to God and believe they are better off without Him. And like the government in Micah’s day, current governments are evil to the people.
Micah speaks to politicians about it.
“Now hear ye heads of Jacob!”
▪︎ Be aware of your calling.
▪︎ Also realize that you are accountable for your deeds. Ye sit in judgment on others; surely then ye ought to know the judgment for injustice, which awaits yourselves (Romans 2:1).
By the way, he does that as an individual. Just as there are now only a few who call on people to open their eyes and see what evil they do.
The Church of his days has lost its authority through its false prophecies. In the same way, the church of today has, by going little by little further in the way of evil, by not making their voice, no I must say God’s voice, heard clearly.
If we really followed God’s guidelines…
▪︎ How can it be that millions of unborn children are murdered every year? That is allowed by the governments, because we do not call that infanticide but abortion.
▪︎ How can it be that millions of elderly people are murdered every year? That is also allowed by the government, because we do not call this murder of the elderly, but euthanasia.
Indeed, it is allowed by various governments, and that soothes us. Most people no longer even wonder whether God is allowing us to do it. God has no role in their lives anymore.
And now? We see the governors, elected by people who want to see their own will implemented, increasingly making foolish decisions, increasingly destroying their country and their people. They think they are acting wisely, but are increasingly heading for disaster.
Yet, on that great day of the Lord, everyone will be held accountable for what they did, and yet the voice of truth, if it sounds, will carry further than we think possible.
