Joel 2:20-21
²⁰ “But I will remove the northern army far from you,
And I will drive it into a parched and desolate land,
And its vanguard into the eastern sea,
And its rear guard into the western sea.
And its stench will arise and its foul smell will come up,
For it has done great things. “
²¹Don’t fear, O land, rejoice and be glad,
For the Lord has done great things.
Here it is confirmed that the Lord is near the soul that sighs to Him. He comforts the heart that weeps to Him crying. He who turns to the Lord in repentance and conversion is not rejected by Him, but finds an audience. He receives grace.
It is the same with Judah.
The grasshoppers had done great damage.
But the Lord has given great redemption.
The prophet says that they (the army of locusts) have done “great things.”
The prophet also says that the Lord has done “great things.”
The words are the same, but the “things” are very different, of course.
Opposition is destruction, and pity is joy.
After repentance, the Lord gives joy.
The Name of the Lord is praised (Joel 2:26).
Do you also know about this in your life?
It is necessary not only to confess our sins and tear our hearts, but also to learn to rejoice in the Lord as the God of salvation.
He still does such great things.
In the first part of his prophecy, Joel spoke about the day of the Lord as about the day of judgment. Who will exist for God?
But now Joel may declare that God’s day is also the day of complete redemption for all who fled to Him.
Spare Your people, O LORD, and do not surrender Your inheritance.
This prayer is answered by God. There is a future for Christ’s sake. Even as the day of the Lord draws near.
Joel sees God’s striking hand in the plague of locusts.
But he may also proclaim that the Lord cares about His people.
Even now Judah is shown the harbingers of God’s day. Auspicious omens.
The grasshoppers are put away by God.
The vine and the fig tree will bloom again.
Heralds of the new earth, on which righteousness will dwell.
The grasshoppers have done great things (Joel 2:20).
But the Lord also does great things. He redeems His people.
The approaching judgment day is a day of terror for God’s enemies.
But all who are Christ’s may hear: Your salvation is near!
