Luke 2:11
For today in the city of David (Bethlehem)
there has been born for you a Savior,
who is Christ the Lord.
Once a year, Christmas is celebrated worldwide.
The feast that reminds us that the Lord Jesus was born.
Although more and more people have lost the true, deep, and great meaning of this feast.
The way they celebrate it, they could better call it “Santa Claus”, “feast of the lit trees” or something like that. Also you see more and more, that people avoid the term “Christmas” (Christ is often replaced with “X”) as if it were a bad disease.
But there is indeed a good reason for dwelling on what God has done when He let His Son to be born in that stable in Bethlehem. (And not only on the 25th of December, which by the way is not really His Birthday.)
That there is reason for feasting is immediately clear from the angel’s message to the shepherds. After all, didn’t he speak of ‘great joy’?
What he says is a spoken birth announcement, sent from heaven!
“With great joy we let you know of the birth of our Son and Savior … “
Yet something is missing when I present it like this. The angel adds a word that cannot be found on any birth card: namely ‘you’. He was ‘born for you’.
No other birth can say that!
Those words let us also know something else: you and I are welcome to visit anytime!
It is not said that mother and child rest at certain hours.
The shepherds understand, and go to a maternity visit while it is apparently still night! You and I are also welcome, all hours of the day and of the night!
Born for you: Christ the Lord your Savior.
Come, let us adore Him…
