Psalms 86:11
Teach me Your way, O Lord;
I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name.
In this prayer David asks from God to teach him His way.
I hear Christians say
▪︎ that they want to follow Jesus,
▪︎ that they want to walk in God’s truth,
▪︎ and that they want to live close to God.
Whatever they may mean with that,
for in the same time I also hear them say.
▪︎ that they don’t want to give up on worldly pleasures,
▪︎ that they want to work out their own plans,
▪︎ and that they are not interested in reading, or studying the Bible
That leaves me wondering…
▪︎ How can you love someone you don’t know?
▪︎ How can you learn to know Him, if you don’t read the Bible?
▪︎ And how can you walk in God’s truth, if you don’t even know what it is?
The Bible says in Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
And from Jesus is recorded in Matthew 11:28-30
²⁸ “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹Take My yoke upon you and LEARN from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ³⁰For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
But how will you learn from Him with having contact with Him?
▪︎ Every Christian should be ready to learn more about his Master.
▪︎ Every Christian should have a teachable spirit.
▪︎ And every Christian should be ready to learn from God.
God can teach you something new every day.
David recognized this, and asked God to teach him His way, so he could walk in it, and live in His truth; he also asked God to direct his heart to Him in reverence to Him, and to submit his heart to Him.
Dear friends,
My wish is that you make David’s prayer also your prayer, for when you start asking for God’s guidance, the Holy Spirit will, while you are reading the Bible, start teaching you all things you need to know, and bring you in a deeper, and closer relationship with the Father and the Son.
Teach me Your way, O Lord;
I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name.
