In John 8:12 we read that Jesus said to the pharisees: “I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the LIGHT OF LIFE.”
Before we turned to Jesus there was only darkness around us, and we lived in darkness. But Jesus came as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Him will not remain in darkness. (John 12:46)
So by following the Christ we walk in the light. And when we have His light we can see where we are going, and we don’t have to stumble or fall. (John 11:9-10).
As long as we have light we have to work, and do what God tells us to do, because there is a time coming in which it will not be possible to work anymore.
As we read in John 9:4-5: ⁴We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. ⁵While I am in the world, I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.”
Jesus was and is still in this world.
2.000 years ago He walked the earth AMONG US; now He is through His Holy Spirit IN US on earth.
And although reaching people with the Gospel is still possible, in some countries it is darkening quickly, and may sharing the best news in the world even cost you your life. In these countries satanic powers are so present in the people, and those people love the darkness so much, that they do no longer allow the light of the Gospel to shine.
Still when Jesus love is really within you, it is almost impossible to not SHARE THE LIGHT that is in you.
In Matthew 5:14-16 we read that Jesus said: ¹⁴”YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; ¹⁵nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. ¹⁶Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
So when WE are now the light of the world, it is very hard to let the light that is inside us not shine. Anyone who comes in our neighborhood will realize that there is something different, we are not like those who are from the world.
Like a city that is on a hill will be seen by anybody who comes in it’s surroundings, and like a lamp that gives light, will be seen by all who are in the house, so people will also realize that we are different; even when we have no chance to talk about the Gospel.
So let your light, that is the life and love of the Christ that is within you, shine before men in such a way, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
Make sure, that whatever may happen, you keep following Jesus.
He alone is your source of light. Any other form of light is only fake and artificial.
John 12:36 — While you HAVE THE LIGHT, BELIEVE IN THE LIGHT, so that you may become SONS OF LIGHT.
1 John 1:7 — “If we are walking in the light, as he is in the light, we are all UNITED with one another, and THE BLOOD OF JESUS HIS SON makes us clean from all sin.”
