A scholar who was totally unbelieving met a simple Christian who was on his way to church.
After a short chat about the weather, he asked the man in a slightly mocking tone why he actually went to church.
“To worship God sir” was the short answer.
“What kind of person is your God?” was the next question in the same sneering tone; and he added, “Please give me an exact description!”
Fervent and enthusiastic, the Christian replied, “Well, sir, He is so great that the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him, and at the same time so small that He can dwell in my heart.”
The freethinker felt that this man had given an excellent answer.
He later told some friends that this man had done more to convince him of the truth of the Bible, then shelves full of learned theological books did.
“For thus says the High and Exalted,
Who dwells in eternity and whose name is holy,
I live on the heights and in the sacred,
and with him who is of a crushed and lowly spirit,
that I may quicken the hearts of the crushed ”
(Isaiah 57:15).
That great God wants to live in such hearts.
