Recently I dreamed that I was walking with someone on the sidewalk along a highway, through a wooded area.
That man had been a complete stranger to me up to that point. But we talked freely about all kinds of things that occur in everyday life, and that’s how the conversation also came to be about the Bible.
As the Bible became the subject, he became noticeably more enthusiastic. He told a lot about his experiences, and a lot of it came across very positively to me.
Just when I thought I might have found someone to add to my circle of friends, he said, “Let’s walk down that dark lane.”
I agreed until I saw what that lane housed.
At the beginning of the lane I saw that the whole ground was covered with small snakes.
“No, sorry, I’m not going there” I said.
He then told me that He often went there, and that this lane was in fact the purpose of His walk. He went on to say, “You know, they are venomous snakes but they are not deadly.
And when they bite, it gives a nice effect. It’s like you used drugs, and it doesn’t cost you a cent! They bite you a few times, you get a little lightheaded, and you get a really nice feeling, you get really high from it.
And it really helps you to forget, and get over the problems of the day.
I looked at him in surprise.
“You don’t let snakes bite you to have a pleasant feeling, do you?”
“Well,” he said. “If you don’t want to go here, it’s up to you, but you don’t know what you’re missing!”
Then I woke up
When I woke up I thought about it for a moment.
Isn’t it exactly the same with many people?
We have a lot of fun in our life. Even though we know that what we do is poison to our eternal destiny.
Now be honest!
▪︎ Do you perhaps watch TV programs that you actually should not watch?
▪︎ Do you perhaps participate in things that you actually should not participate in?
▪︎ Do you perhaps drink alcohol while you know you should not?
▪︎ Do you perhaps smoke while you know you should not?
Jesus can set you free!
On the outside we may seem to be good Christians, but what if we do what the Christ tells us not to do, and don’t do what we should do?
We frequently have to examine ourselves.
Satan is crafty.
He knows exactly, what people enjoy, and of course he makes sinning to a pleasant activity, because if it were annoying, there would be no human being willing to do it anymore.
Therefore we must be vigilant.
And make sure we don’t fall for Satan’s cunning tricks!
