Question
Can we hear the trumpet went it sounds?
Answer
In 1 Corinthians 15 we read:
1 Corinthians 15:51-53 (NASB)
⁵¹Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, ⁵²in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
⁵³For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.
In Numbers 10 we read:
Numbers 10:9
When you go to war in your land against the adversary who attacks you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the Lord your God, and be saved from your enemies.
So the sound of the trumpet was an alarming sound to warn people that something was going to happen. (Ofcourse people heard this sound).
In Joshua 6 we read:
Joshua 6:5,20
⁵It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people will go up every man straight ahead.”
²⁰So the people shouted, and priests blew the trumpets; and when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight ahead, and they took the city.
Here the sound of the trumpet again was an alarming sound to warn people to give attention, for something was going to happen (the walls of Jericho came down) and they had to take the city. (Ofcourse people heard this sound).
In 1 Chronicles 15 we read:
1 Chronicles 15:27-28
²⁷Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen with all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers and Chenaniah the leader of the singing with the singers. David also wore an ephod of linen.
²⁸Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting, and with sound of the horn, with trumpets, with loud-sounding cymbals, with harps and lyres.
Here the sound of the trumpet was heard as a festive thing was happening. The Ark of the covenant was being brought back to Jerusalem. (Ofcourse people heard this sound).
In 2 Chronicles 13 we read:
2 Chronicles 13:12
Now behold, God is with us at our head and His priests with the signal trumpets to sound the alarm against you. O sons of Israel, do not fight against the Lord God of your fathers, for you will not succeed.”
This time the sound of the trumpet again was an alarming sound to warn people to not fight against the Lord God. But they did and 500.000 men were killed. (Ofcourse the people had heard this sound).
And so there are many more examples in the Bible of where the trumpet sounded.
Every time to get the attention of the people, to warn them of something great that was going to happen, or or in a festive way, where there was joy.
In Hebrews 12 we read
Hebrews 12:19,25
¹⁹And to the blast of a trumpet and the sound of words which sound was such that those who heard begged that no further word be spoken to them.
²⁵See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.
Nowhere I found that the trumpet would not be heard when it sounds.
● When the last trumpet sounds it will be an alarming sound to those who are still ignoring, or fighting the invitation of God to surrender to Him, and a tremendous fear will fill their hearts.
▪︎ It will be for them as is was for the people in Jericho who saw their walls, in which they had trusted, tumbling down.
▪︎ It will be for them as is was for the people who saw half a million people killed, because they fought against God.
● But the same sound will be a festive sound to all those who belong to Him, for this is where all generations of His followers have been waiting for. The return of Jesus, and the Kingdom of God in its fullness.
▪︎ It will be for them complete salvation at last.
▪︎ It will be for them who feasted with David going with the Ark to Jerusalem, so they will be feasting with their Lord.
God is still warning,
God is showing us by what is happening in the world that Jesus return is at hand.
But one day it will be too late to repent and turn to God for those who keep ignoring His invitation, and keep fighting Him.
We live, at the moment I write this, still in the time of grace.
Don’t come too late! Surrender your life to Him today, take up cross, and start following Him right now!
