Matthew 12:42
The queen of the south shall rise up
in the judgment with this generation,
and shall condemn it:
for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth
to hear the wisdom of Solomon;
and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
Devotional
The Christ surpasses Solomon in every way.
The peace that prevailed under the reign of Solomon was a temporary, earthly peace.
Christ is the Prince of Peace Who has made eternal peace with God for His people.
The wisdom of the Christ surpasses the great wisdom of Solomon.
Solomon’s reign was short, and was only over the body,
that of the Christ is eternal and is about soul and body.
The protection of the Christ is a complete protection against Satan, the world and sin.
Solomon could give earthly, perishable treasures.
The Christ gives true conversion, salvation.
The Christ also surpasses Solomon in that He knows how to turn declared enemies into willing followers. Followers who want to serve Him wholeheartedly.
How bad it would be if we kept looking for the perishable treasures of earthly rulers. However, it is also not sufficient to be outwardly a subject of Christ. The zeal for the old truth, some emotion and feeling, without true repentance, cannot exist before God. It is necessary to be made poor in the experience in order to need the riches of Christ.
