And, behold, there was a man
which had [his] hand withered.
And they asked him, saying,
Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days?
that they might accuse him.

Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?
The Christ was addressed by the Pharisees in the synagogue.
They asked him a question.
Where did that question come from?
It did not arise out of interest in Jesus’ view.
The Pharisees hoped that they might accuse Christ of deviating from their precepts. They were driven by blind zeal for outward appearances, and deadly hatred towards the savior.
Everything that Christ did they denounced for evil. They were driven by base intentions.
The Lord has plainly said that it is lawful to do good on the sabbath days. And He healed the withered hand on the Sabbath.
▪︎ Are you free from angry motivations when you wonder if someone else is allowed to do something?
▪︎ Are you free from bias and malice?
May the Lord work and/or strengthen the desire in the hearts of each of us to receive instruction from the highest Prophet and Teacher, the Christ.
May, by grace, live that longing in the heart of each of us.
