John 11:25-26
²⁵Jesus said to her, “I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE; he who believes in Me WILL LIVE even if he dies, ²⁶and everyone who lives and believes in Me WILL NEVER DIE”.
RESURRECTION
The word resurrection in this verse is translated from the Greek word ἀνάστασις anastasis (an–as’–tas–is)
It appears 42 times and is translated in the AV as resurrection (39), rising again (1), that should rise (1), and raised to life again (1)
The meaning of this word is:
1) a raising up, rising (e.g. from a seat)
2) a rising from the dead like that of Christ, that of all men at the end of this present age, and the resurrection of certain ones history who were restored to life (Hebrews 11:35)
LIFE
The word life in this verse is translated from the Greek word ζωή zoe (dzo–ay’0)
It appears 134 times and is translated in the AV as life (133), lifetime (1)
The meaning of this word is:
1) Life in the sense of the state of one who is possessed of vitality or is animate
Or life in the sense of every living soul
2) Life in the sense of the absolute fulness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God, and through Him both to the hypostatic “logos” and to Christ in whom the “logos” put on human nature
Life in the sense of life real and genuine, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ, but after the resurrection to be consummated by new accessions (among them a more perfect body), and to last for ever.
Jesus is not merely speaking of having an existence, but of having a real life, devoted to God, a blessed life in this world, and after the resurrection in a renewed body, that will last for ever.
Everyone who believes in the Christ, receives an ETERNAL LIFE, and though the body may die, THE SPIRIT WILL LIVE FOREVER.
John 3:15 — so that whoever believes will in Him have ETERNAL LIFE.
