Romans 8:38-39
³⁸For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, ³⁹nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Devotional
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
During World War 1, a party of journalists visited the town of Verdun in France. In and around Verdun some of the fiercest battles were then being fought. They were met outside the town by a military officer.
“Gentlemen,” the officer said, “the French Republic considers that the highest honor it can pay its guests is to take them into Verdun. But the French Republic cannot guarantee to take them out.”
Life sometimes appears to us a sort of spiritual Verdun in which we find ourselves.
God does not guarantee that any of us will pass through life unscathed. But we do have the assurance that God will be with us.
If we put our trust in Him, no power can separate us from God’s eternal love revealed in Christ Jesus.
Prayer suggestions
▪︎ Ask God to help you to take a fresh hold upon His everlasting love.
▪︎ When your hold upon Him is feeble, ask God to help you to rest in the knowledge that nothing can loosen His hold upon you.
▪︎ Ask God to help you to be faithful in all your trials.
