Tonnie’s screams are getting louder. “What’s the matter with Tonnie?”
Everyone asked the same question. The neighbors looked out their windows to see what was going on.
Mrs. Sanders a neighbor, could see what was happening from above.
She saw the little boy standing like a ball of rope. Tonnie had gotten hold of his brother’s kite rope and, twirling and twirling and twirling, he had wound it up all over him.
And now he wanted to show his friends how beautiful it was … But he couldn’t get away! Ed and Wim came to his aid. They pulled and pushed and turned; but the harder they worked, the more Tonnie got confused, and the tighter and more painful it got, and the louder Tonnie screamed.
Soon, Tonnie’s mother came to the rescue. She took out a pair of scissors and cut the whole mess and set Tonnie free.
But Tonnie had yet to learn that every day he was ensnaring himself with ties of sin, and that every sin made him more captive. And from these ties his friends and even his mother could not free him.
Boys and girls, that’s the way it is with us now. We all do wrong things; those are sins, and you do them over and over, and you can’t resist; you are bound by it.
But the Lord Jesus, the Son of God, He can break any tie.
He died voluntarily. But He rose from the grave.
No human being is that strong.
Therefore, He is the only One Who can truly make us free and happy.
