But from the beginning of the creation
From the beginning of the creation of the world, or of man: “from the beginning of the creation of the world”, is a way of speaking often used by the Jews.
The phrase “of the creation” is left out in the Syriac and Persic versions; and so it was in Beza’s most ancient copy, in those we only read, “from the beginning”, as it is in Matthew 19:4,8.
God made them male and female
▪︎ The first people that were created, Adam and Eve,
▪︎ the first parents of mankind,
▪︎ the first couple that came together
were one male and one female; so that there could be no polygamy or divorce.
Adam could not have more wives than one: nor could he put away Eve, and marry another; no provision was made for any such usages and practices.

Moses’ divorce arrangements are given in a situation that does not correspond to God’s original purpose. God’s original intention was a monogamous marriage for life (Mark 10:6-8).
When Jesus quotes a number of verses from the book of Genesis, it is not to play one scripture against another, but to make clear their relationship.
▪︎ The divorce settlement of Moses is, as it were, a concession to the sinful reality in which man lives.
▪︎ The passages from Genesis express God’s eternal plan for man.
Monogamous marriage for life is a creation institution (from the beginning of creation ”, cf. Mark 13:19; 2 Peter 3:4). Jesus cites Genesis 1:27 (LXX) (“He made them male and female”) as the logical premise for marriage: man and woman are naturally built for marriage.
Now let us reflect on this
Divorce!
We hear about this almost every day. Also within the Christian congregation. It seems as if no two can cross the road together anymore.
Very cleverly sought are the causes that cause two people to separate. We let all that rest, because there is so much in it that arises from the flesh.
On the other hand, we want to point out to every man and woman who are married, to what the Lord Jesus tells us. God created male and female, and what He has joined together, will not be separated by man.
Can it never be difficult in married life?
Yes, it can be very difficult at times.
And especially when one of them is unfaithful. That can be a very heavy cross. But if one goes after the Lord with such a cross, then He helps to carry it along.
Furthermore, we must not forget that the Lord is a God of miracles.
How broken a marriage may be, He can heal it.
Yes, in spite of everything, He can still make it so, that we must marvel.
May the Lord give every man and woman sincere faithfulness and love to one another.
