Hosea 2: 1 NASB
Say to your brothers, “Ammi,”
and to your sisters, “Ruhamah.”
You will tell your brothers, “You are my people.”
And you will tell your sisters, “He has loved you.”
My children, argue with your mother.
Tell her that she is wrong. Tell that to her because she is not my wife. And I am not her husband.
Tell her that she must stop living like a prostitute. She must take away the men that she loved from between her breasts.
If she does not do that, I will take away all her clothes. It will be like the day when she was born.
I will leave her to die. She will die because she will have no water. I will let her stay in a dry desert. I will not show great love to her children. They are the children of a prostitute.
See Hosea 2:2-4
Mother … we are suing you!
To this end the LORD, as the Hurt Husband, calls on the children born of adultery. Surely she will listen to them? Surely they will take sides with the Lord?
But no, they ground to their mother. No charges but a mocking laughter.
No wonder the Lord is going to make judgments against these unfaithful people.
First it is words, to wake up to conversion.
The Lord is not going to do this out of pleasure, but out of love.
He does not want to lose His wife.
At the risk that an attempt will be made to justify herself, it must nevertheless be said.
Repent, and return of your evil ways.
That arguing with mother (the church) must be done as a testimony by her children (the members), and must be done out of love.
To abandon mother is certainly not the first choice, but when mother keeps leading you in the wrong direction, and does not want to return from it, you may have no other choice.
Talking to her, and calling her to return and repent, is an assignment to her children.
