Matthew 22:4 NASB
Again he sent out other slaves saying,
‘Tell those who have been invited,
“Behold, I have prepared my dinner;
my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered
and everything is ready;
come to the wedding feast.” ’
Who does not want to be cherished by the flame of God’s love, will be consumed by the glow of His wrath.
Again he sent out other servants.
They were invited, but the invitees refused.
What will the king do?
He is extremely patient.
He sends a new invitation.
This time even more urgent than the previous one.
No, he was not obliged to do that. But he does.
One last offer. The king goes to extremes.
Everything is now ready.
Come now!
There can be no further delay!
Come now!
What a patience. Surely they will be deeply impressed by that ?!
You thought so!
But what do we see?
There are two responses.
- There are those who do not heed the invitation. They show disinterest. They reject the invitation because of their daily activities. They prefer the overalls to the party dress. You may say: That is understandable because you can’t just break free. Do you think so? There was a preparation time. They knew about it!
- The others grab the servants and mistreat them. They show hostility. Mind blowing! The king didn’t send a writ of execution, did He? Wasn’t it a friendly invitation? How is such a reaction possible ?!
Then the king comes into action again. This time a punitive expedition!
For, and we may take that to heart, who does not want to be cherished by the flame of God’s love, will be consumed by the glow of His wrath.
