Repentance and remission of sins should be preached
in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Starting from Jerusalem.
They must preach repentance and forgiveness of sins to the ends of the earth in His Name.
But where do you start? Which country should you choose to preach the Gospel there first? We wouldn’t know that. But, the Lord points it out. Starting from Jerusalem.
Is that special?
○ Yes, it is special, because Jerusalem was the place where they were!
It tells us that when we want to testify of our Lord, we don’t need to go to the other end of the world to start, but we can start right there where we are. In our own Jerusalem.
○ Yes, it is special, because Jerusalem is the city of the murderers!
They murdered God’s Son, and before Him, many of God’s prophets and messengers.
Exactly there where they crucified the Lord, is the place where they should start.
That is grace!
Incomprehensible grace that they had to start right there.
Not to end there, if they’ve had the whole world. No, they must preach conversion and forgiveness first in Jerusalem.
That tells us that there is grace for the greatest sinners.
Moreover, it takes a lot of courage to preach in Jerusalem.
Peter had already been distressed by a maid’s question, and now will he have to preach there?
Yes, and he can, because of the strength and courage he received from above. They were clothed with power from above since they received the Holy Spirit.
Then Peter stands there, with the eleven, and preaches Jesus, for repentance and forgiveness of sins.
Ever since that day, thousands have done the same. Full of His Spirit…
▪︎ they have preached the Gospel,
▪︎ they have preached repentance,
▪︎ they have preached grace, and forgiveness of sin.
Why?
▪︎ Because the Kingdom of God is at hand.
▪︎ Because the Father loves us and wants us to accept His invitation.
▪︎ Because the Father wants His house to be full.
Matthew 18:14 NASB
It is not the will of your Father who is in heaven
that one of these little ones perish.
