Luke 11:14 AMP
And [at another time] Jesus was casting out a demon,
and it was [controlling a man so as to make him] mute;
when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke.
And the crowds were awed.
In this verse, Jesus is confronted with an evil spirit, which disrupted and disrupted someone’s speech. But Jesus drives him out. The crowd marveled and was full of admiration, but some resist.
Luke 11:15 AMP
But some of them said,
“He drives out demons by [the power of] Beelzebul (Satan),
the ruler of the demons.”
We western people are much more focused on the visible and tangible things of creation, the material. But both the Old and New Testaments speak very clearly about the invisible world, the world of angels, devil and demons, among others (e.g. Genesis 19:1; Job 1:6; Ephesians 6:12)
When Jesus casts out an evil spirit here, He uses this event to clarify to his hearers several things about the spirit world.
He leaves no doubt that He, as the God-sent Messiah, fights the realm of the devil. God’s Kingdom is revealed in Him. He has come to declare and shape it here on earth
Luke 11:18-20 AMP
If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand and continue to survive? For you are saying that I drive out demons by [the power of] Beelzebul (Satan). Now if I drive out the demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons [the Jewish exorcists] drive them out? For this reason they will be your judges. But if I drive out the demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has already come upon you.
The devil may be strong, but Jesus is stronger than he.
Luke 11:21-22 AMP
When the strong man, fully armed, guards his own house,
his belongings are undisturbed and secure.
But when someone stronger than he attacks and overpowers him,
he robs him of all his armor on which he had relied
and divides his [goods as] spoil.
(Compare 1 John 3:8)
Satan’s kingdom must be fought. We must be prepared and equipped to do this. We only get this equipment from the bond with Christ the Conqueror
Colossians 2:15 AMP
When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities
[those supernatural forces of evil operating against us],
He made a public example of them
[exhibiting them as captives in His triumphal procession],
having triumphed over them through the cross.
He contrasts the kingdom of light with the kingdom of darkness (John 8:12; Ephesians 5: 8-14).
Luke 11:24-26 AMP
“When the unclean spirit comes out of a person, it roams through waterless places in search [of a place] of rest; and not finding any, it says, ‘I will go back to my house (person) from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the place swept and put in order. Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in [the person] and live there; and the last state of that person becomes worse than the first.”
In these verses Jesus gives an important warning. A demon must definitely be cast out. But then measures must be taken to prevent his return, specifically through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Otherwise, the liberation of that person may backfire.
Ephesians 5:18 AMP
Do not get drunk with wine,
for that is wickedness (corruption, stupidity),
but be filled with the [Holy] Spirit
and constantly guided by Him.
When a woman heard all this, she praised the mother of Jesus, who gave birth to such a great Son. But Jesus corrects her. Hearing and practicing the Word of God is more important than family relationships
Luke 11:27-28 AMP
Now while Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed (happy, favored by God) is the womb that gave birth to You and the breasts at which You nursed!” But He said, “On the contrary, blessed (happy, favored by God) are those who hear the word of God and continually observe it.”
So these two are important: to hear and to do.
