Question:
Isn’t it hard to live holy?
Answer:
Yes, not only difficult, even impossible.
All our willpower, and all our good intentions, are insufficient.
Only God’s power can sustain us.
What is that power?
That power is the power of the Holy Spirit
Romans 8:13 says:
If you are living according to the flesh, you must die;
but if by the spirit, you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
So we can kill the works of the body through the Spirit.
This power enables us to live a victorious life.
How do you get that power?
Luke 11:13 shows us that we can receive this from the Father.
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?
God gives the Holy Spirit to every person who asks Him for it.
How does that power work?
He changes the nature of man.
2 Corinthians 5:17
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
You will lose your pleasure in the sinful things, and you get pleasure in doing the things of God.
Is this sudden or is it a lengthy process?
It is a development that lasts throughout your life.
Think for example of Moses. He killed an Egyptian in his temper, and yet he was later described as a very gentle courageous person. God had worked on his character for decades, first during a career as a shepherd, and then as a shepherd of the people of Israel. Well known is, that in spite of his extraordinary gentleness, he was once again carried away by his annoyed mood. (See Numbers 20: 2-13)
