Another name of the Lord Jesus is the Word.
John 1:1-3, is a deep and profound portion in the Bible where we read:
¹In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ²He was in the beginning with God. ³All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
The Word, who was in the beginning with God, was God. Without Jesus, without the Christ as the living Word, God would be a mysterious being, and at great distance from us.
We would not be able to know Him.
But now we can know Him.
When Philip asked Jesus: “Lord, show us the Father” (John 14:8) Jesus answered him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me, has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” (John 14:9)
Our Lord Jesus, as the living Word showed, explained, defined, and expressed God to us.
He declared to us who God is.
▪︎ In His sermons,
▪︎ In His parables,
▪︎ In His miracles,
▪︎ In His love,
▪︎ In His patience,
▪︎ In the way He lived,
▪︎ And in the way He died, and rose again.
It was through the Word, that all of creation was brought into being. (John 1:3) In the Word was life itself. This life became the Light of men.
John 1:4
In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.
John goes on to say that the Word became flesh and lived among us.
John 1:14
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
The Word, who is God (vs.1), didn’t remain in His eternal dwelling place, but stepped out of eternity into time, to become flesh, He became one of us, He became incarnated as a man: Jesus.
What a miracle of love and grace this was.
▪︎ That He, the eternal Word,
▪︎ That He, Who was with God,
▪︎ That He, Who was God,
▪︎ That He, through whom all things that exist, came into being,
chose to join humanity, to be able to save us from the wrath of God on our sins.
He came, being fully man, and at the same time fully God.
(He who has seen Me, has seen the Father. – John 14:9).
▪︎ He came as God in human form, living among us.
▪︎ He came as God in human form, showing us how much God cares for us, His creation.
▪︎ He came as God in human form, because He knew that mankind, stubborn as we are, left Him, and needed to be called back to Him.
▪︎ He came as God in human form, to prepare a way for us to salvation, because He knew that all of us have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
But now, today, this same God, is willing to live even closer to you. He is willing to live IN you, through His Holy Spirit.
Have you accepted His invitation already to follow Him?
