Matthew 13:23 KJV
But he that received seed into the good ground
is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it;
which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth,
some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Devotional
The field of the heart is totally corrupted through its own fault.
It is a miracle when the well-trodden crust is loosened, the rocky ground
is removed, the thorns are pulled out.
A painful way to make a well-prepared earth.
- Has the seed fallen by the wayside? Then you are an unmoved hearer.
- Does it fall on stony places so that there is no growth in the deep, no sorrow for sin? Then you are a light-hearted hearer.
- Has the seed fallen among the thorns and choked? Then you are a deeply moved hearer. But everything is short for eternity.
It is a miracle if the seed may fall into well-prepared ground.
Such hearers of the Word are also complainers of the hardness, the stones, and the thorns within. They bear so little fruit for your own perception. These are hearers, whose fruit is not of themselves, but of God.
