Matthew 5:13 NASB
You are the salt of the earth;
but if the salt has become tasteless,
how can it be made salty again?
It is no longer good for anything,
except to be thrown out
and trampled under foot by men.
Devotional
Thou art the salt of the earth.
Margin notes in the Bible may tell you that this speaks of the teachers because as salt makes food tasteful and keeps it from rotting, so also by teaching they make the souls of men acceptable to God, and save them from destruction.”
This is in contrast to the leaven of the Pharisees.
Their teaching and life was not good.
The teachers sent from God have to salt the earth with their teaching.
How sad it is that even today there is a lot of tasteless salt.
Salt that takes on the fishy smell and fishy taste.
Poor quality salt.
Many worldly preachers who defile their hearers.
Such salt can only be thrown away and trampled.
By grace, God’s servants and children may even today be a salting salt, through their teaching and life.
▪︎ They are troubled again and again with the leftover leaven of sin in their hearts.
▪︎ It is their complaint that there is going out so little saltiness from them.
May this bring people to their knees with the plea, “Lord, give me the grace to be a salting salt, to your glory.”
