Matthew 5:16 NASB
Let your light shine before men
in such a way that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Devotional
It is not indifferent how those, who may fear the Lord, live.
They have to do good works and so let their light shine before the people.
Good works are not to be done to earn heaven in whole or in part.
They should be performed out of gratitude.
Good works are to be done without ulterior motive.
They should not be done to be seen by the people.
It should only be for the glory of God.
He is glorified in it when His children live by His laws.
The opposite is also true.
The Lord can be blasphemed by the world if God’s child does not take it so seriously. Man by nature produces only sinful works. It is only grace to be allowed to do good works.
Questions
▪︎ What can be seen in you: Sinful works or good works, even if it be a small principle?
▪︎ Is it your fear that for your sake the name of the Lord should be blasphemed, and is it your heart’s desire that His Name should be honored and praised?
