Matthew 4:4 NASB
But He answered and said,
It is written,
Man shall not live on bread alone,
but on every word that proceeds
out of the mouth of God.
Devotional
Here, right at the first temptation, the Savior’s obedience to the Father is evident.
He drives out Satan with God’s own Word: It is written.
When Satan came to Eve and tempted her to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, she should have said, The Lord has spoken…. but for her the desire was greater than the commandment.
Thus we have all fallen and no longer speak against the devilish temptations.
But the Son of man lives by the Word.
His Father’s Word is the highest to Him.
▪︎ First that Word and then the bread.
▪︎ Rather the screaming hunger than that He should fail the commandment of the Father.
In everything He desires to hear it, and to do it.
It is his food to do the will of the Father which is in heaven.
Above all, He loves God.
God never waives that requirement.
Though we are a thousand times unable on our own to listen to it, yet God continues to ask for His glory.
Have you discovered it in your life?
