Matthew 3:10 NASB
The axe is already laid at the root of the trees;
therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit
is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Devotional
In the above words, John the Baptist has expressed that judgment is near. That the Pharisees and Sadducees will not escape judgment unless they learn the life of true repentance. (And that goes for us too!)
Boasting with their carnal descending from Abraham will not save them from the wrath of God. It is necessary to do the works of Abraham from a heart labored and renewed by the Holy Spirit.
John the Baptist preached it to the Pharisees and Sadducees who approached him:
▪︎ Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance.
▪︎ Fruits that correspond to true conversion.
Even today the axe is still at the root of the trees.
Are you not yet producing good fruit?
Know then that every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
It cannot be delayed: the ax is already at the root of the trees.
An outwardly impeccable life is not enough.
True conversion is necessary.
An incomprehensible miracle to be renewed by the Holy Spirit and to be able to bear fruit worthily of repentance.
