Matthew 3:3 NASB
For this is the one referred to
by Isaiah the prophet when he said,
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
‘Make ready the way of the Lord,
Make His paths straight!'”

John the Baptist preaches in the Judean desert.
He is the preparer of the way of the Lord.
He prepares the hearts of the people to receive the Lord.
Before a king in the East came to a place, a herald preceded him.
He called the people of the villages and towns, through which the king’s way should lead, to straighten the ways and remove the obstacles.
We know have nice roads in our time. Today they even come here and there in the deserts. But that was not the case in those days. The roads were in many places
hardly passable and often full of stones and rocks.
But how many more obstacles there are in the lives and hearts of sinners.
We have fallen away from God and became enemies of God.
Our heart is nothing but a dead and barren desert.
There is no room for the Lord and for His grace.
There is no place for the salvation of the Lamb of God.
It needs a drastic cleaning.
Now the voice sounds to dead sinners: Prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight! God has a right to it.
He also calls decent churchmen to repentance.
How can it be? Has that already become an oppressive question in your life?
It is such a wonder that the Lord Himself does it in the heart.
If we don’t allow Him into our lives, then we will remain no more than guilty sinners.
