in Bethlehem of Judea
in the days of Herod the king,
magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem

Jesus was born in 5 or 4 BC.
Our era is based on an incorrect calculation, which means that about four years are missed.
He was born at the time when Herod the Great was king over Judea, Idumea and Samaria (40-4 BC).
The “wise men from the east” were probably Babylonian astrologers, who were called sages (Daniel 2:12,48), Chaldeans (Daniel 2:4,10) or magi (magoi is literally “magicians”).
