Anecdote
The notice board hung in the back of the church.
It was changed regularly.
As a pastor, you looked at it every Sunday morning.
Whose turn was it next Saturday?
The date was correct, the name was filled in, now just make a note in the announcements.
If it were mistakenly forgotten, it could have very nasty consequences for the assembly. You always had to keep up with it, otherwise things would go wrong sooner or later…
What am I talking about, you ask?
Well, about the privilege of cleaning the church as a member of the congregation!
Sweep first, because after a week there was just as much dust as in the Netherlands after a year, then dust off and then mop. The pulpit should not be forgotten either. And then wipe seats with a wet cloth.
You had to set aside an afternoon for it, but the result was good.
Not only a clean church, but also a grateful heart.
What a privilege to be able to participate in this as well.
