Mark 14:32
They came to a place named Gethsemane;
and He said to His disciples,
“Sit here until I have prayed.”
Devotional
▪︎ The disciples are to stay behind at the entrance to the Garden of Gethsemane.
▪︎ Three disciples are allowed to go a little further. They are the three who were always allowed to walk with Jesus: Peter, John and James (Mark 14:33). But also for these three there was a limit over which they were not allowed to go. Sit down here.
▪︎ Jesus continues. He continues alone, No one can help Him here. He alone is the One Who can take our punishment on Himself, Who can and will take our punishment away.
One may gain a deeper insight through the grace of the Holy Spirit into the work of the Christ than another, but the Christ pays for our debt, and He alone.
Here Jesus continues to pray. He continues to pray to His Father. He knows what will come and how great the suffering will be. Before taking the cup, He goes to pray.
▪︎ If He needs it, how much more do we.
▪︎ If He seeks solitude to pray, how much more should we do the same.
But who will know the struggle as Jesus knew it?
He accepted the cup of suffering from the Father’s hand. He was willing to go this way for you and me.
