Micah 4:3 KJV
And he shall judge among many people,
and rebuke strong nations afar off;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruninghooks:
nation shall not lift up a sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war any more.
He will decide what is right or wrong between many countries. He will cause strong countries everywhere to stop fighting each other. They fight with swords and spears. But then, they will use hammers to make their swords into ploughs. They will make their spears into tools to cut plants. One country will not fight another country any longer. They will never prepare for war again.
Micah 4:1-3 is almost identical with Isaiah 2:2-4.
Rebuke
Convict of sin (John 16:8,9); and subdue with judgments (Psalms 2:5,9, 110:5,6; Revelation 2:27, 12:5 ).
Many people … strong nations afar off
In Isaiah 2:4 it is “the nations … many people.”
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruninghooks
What does it work out when individuals and nations rush to the mountain of the Lord and seek salvation in the Christ?
First of all, this is how you receive personal reconciliation with God and salvation in the blood of the Christ. The Christ is the only One that can save you. There is none other.
Acts 4:12 KJV
Neither is there salvation in any other:
for there is none other name
under heaven given among men,
whereby we must be saved.
Know that no one has ever taken refuge in Him in vain.
He never left one who prayed to Him without help.
He who fled confessing to Him will share His promise in the mighty miracle of reconciliation and peace with God.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Those who know the secret of reconciliation with God will also desire to reconcile with their neighbor.
Micah shows this in moving images: nations who learn to bow under Christ’s scepter beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into sickles.
Tools of war become agricultural tools.
You see, where Christ comes, strife and resentment, hatred and envy disappear.
In marriage and family. In church and society. Yes, where Christ comes, there even peoples reach out to each other. Unfortunately, that is still not the case. But soon it will be full reality in the eternal Kingdom of peace.
Micah shows us a wonderful vision.
Sword and spear are weapons for waging war and killing.
But one day the peoples will bring them to the blacksmith and ask them to turn them into agricultural tools.
The sword becomes a spade to dig through the fertile land.
The javelin becomes a sickle to cut off the corn and bring in the harvest.
Thus, weapons of killing become tools for bringing life and food.
They will no longer learn war (Isaiah 2:4, Micah 4:3) and they will no longer train youth to be soldiers who know how to kill. Life comes instead of death.
How did that great change come about?
This happens when the nations go to the mountain of the Lord, when the nations follow the Christ, and there learn from Him to walk in His ways and on His paths (Micah 4:2).
God’s commands lead to the kingdom of peace, God’s right to a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells.
2 Peter 3:13 KJV
Nevertheless we,
according to his promise,
look for new heavens and a new earth,
wherein dwelleth righteousness.
God Himself will accomplish this in the latter days.
