Joel 2:15-16
¹⁵Blow a trumpet in Zion,
Consecrate a fast,
proclaim a solemn assembly,
¹⁶Gather the people,
sanctify the congregation,
Assemble the elders,
Gather the children and the nursing infants.
Let the bridegroom come out of his room
And the bride out of her bridal chamber.
The prophet can only do one thing. Call to repentance.
For he sees the cause of that drought and that locust plague: Sin.
That sin is great and heavy, but much greater is God’s mercy.
Well, then there is nothing left but to appeal on that mercy.
The whole people must participate.
The people, the elders, the children, even the babies, the bridegroom and the bride.
No one is excluded.
And then, it should not so much be about getting away from judgment, but about the honor of God.
Because, imagine if the Gentiles would say, where is their God?
Has the need of our country, of our people, also become our need?
Do we carry that need in prayer?
There can only be one ground for the intercession: for your name’s sake, and in view of the great Priest over God’s house: for Jesus’ sake.
