Filled with the Holy Spirit

Luke 1:67
And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied…

Yes, Zechariah too became full of the Holy Spirit and prophesied. Just before God came to earth in the form of Jesus, we read here again of someone who is filled with the Holy Spirit.

This time it is Zechariah.
Like his wife Elisabeth, he too is filled with the Holy Spirit.

“Being filled” is different from “being filled” ??
In my language we have two different words for it, and they are not similar.
Let me explain:

In one case you can think of a cup that you fill with a certain drink. At that moment, the cup will get content, but the cup itself will not change. Yes, it might get warm for a while when you pour coffee, tea, or chocolate milk in it, but it will cool down again after some time. You can drink the contents, but still that cup is the same as before, nothing has changed.

It is not like that when you are filled with the Holy Spirit. You don’t stay the same as you were before. The Spirit works in, and through your life, and changes you. His work in the heart of man does not remain hidden from the outside world.

Like Elisabeth before, Zechariah now sings of God’s greatness, goodness, grace, and redemption, through the coming of the Lord Jesus, who is the Messiah, the Christ, the Anointed One.

Once again that close connection between the Christ and the Spirit is evident.

A final question: Are you also filled with that Spirit?
