Psalms 52:1-7
(1) Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? The lovingkindness of God endures all day long. (2) Your tongue devises destruction, Like a sharp razor, O worker of deceit. (3) You love evil more than good, Falsehood more than speaking what is right. Selah.
(4) You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue. (5) But God will break you down forever; He will snatch you up and tear you away from your tent, And uproot you from the land of the living. Selah.
(6) The righteous will see and fear, And will laugh at him, saying, (7) Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, But trusted in the abundance of his riches And was strong in his evil desire.”
Boasting is uttering spoken or written statements which are expressing excessive pride in oneself, in an other, or in some object.
Boasting in itself is not evil.
It is what we boast in, that makes boasting good or evil.
These verses speak of
▪︎ the wrong kind of boasting, the boasting in evil,
▪︎ the kind of boasting that causes destruction,
▪︎ the kind of boasting that feeds from an evil heart, and doing so is making it more evil,
▪︎ the kind of boasting that shows the love of falsehood,
▪︎ the kind of boasting that comes from a deceitful tongue,
▪︎ the kind of boasting that eventually will kill you.
Dear friends, if you must boast, then boast
▪︎ in your God,
▪︎ in your Savior,
▪︎ in the sacrifice He brought for you,
▪︎ in His blood,
▪︎ in the cross,
▪︎ in His resurrection,
▪︎ in His gift of the Holy Spirit.
We have a lot to boast in.
And acknowledge the goodness of God, by living the life that He has given you in such a way that it glorifies your heavenly Father.
Let your life be such, that it produces good results, and a rich harvest, by making a good impact on the lives of people around you.
Let your life be such that they will give thanks, and praise God, for coming into contact with you.
Matthew 5:16 – Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
If you belong to God’s children, then you are here to be used as God’s extension to bring them in contact with His glad tidings and express the love of God to humanity.
May the Lord give you grace to show your faith through your words and actions.
Show your faith by your words and your works. (James 2:18)
May the Lord give you grace to do good works, and boast in the Lord for giving you the Holy Spirit to order your steps.
