Matthew 22:1-14
³And he SENT out his slaves TO CALL THOSE who had been INVITED to the wedding feast, and they were UNWILLING TO COME.
It is a feast. Gospel preparations were prophesied as a feast.
Isaiah 25:6-9 – ⁶The Lord of hosts will prepare a LAVISH BANQUET for all peoples on this mountain; A banquet of aged wine, choice pieces with marrow, And refined, aged wine. ⁷And on this mountain HE WILL SWALLOW UP THE COVERING WHICH IS OVER ALL PEOPLES, Even the veil which is stretched over all nations. ⁸HE WILL SWALLOW UP DEATH FOR ALL TIME, And the Lord God will WIPE TEARS AWAY FROM ALL FACES, And He will remove the reproach of His people from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken. ⁹And it will be said in that day, “Behold, THIS IS OUR GOD FOR WHOM WE HAVE WAITED THAT HE MIGHT SAVE US. THIS IS THE LORD FOR WHOM WE HAVE WAITED; Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”
A feast of fat things, and were typified by the many festivals of the ceremonial law
1 Corinthians 5:7-8 – ⁷Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For CHRIST OUR PASSOVER also has been sacrificed. ⁸Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the UNLEAVENED bread of SINCERITY and TRUTH.
A feast is a good day
Esther 8:17 – In each and every province and in each and every city, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree arrived, there was GLADNESS and JOY for the Jews, a FEAST and a HOLIDAY.
In the same way in the gospel it is a CONTINUAL FEAST.
Oxen and fatlings are killed for this feast no niceties, but substantial food enough, and ENOUGH OF THE BEST.
The day of a feast is a day of slaughter, or sacrifice, (James 5:5).
Gospel preparations are all founded in the death of Christ, His sacrifice of Himself.
• This feast is a feast of LOVE
• This feast is a feast of RECONCILIATION
• This feast is a token of GOD’S GOODWILL toward men.
• This feast is a feast of LAUGHTER – Ecclesiastes 10:19 – Men prepare a meal for ENJOYMENT, and wine makes life merry.
• This feast is a feast of REJOICING.
• This feast is a feast for FULNESS.
The gospel was designed to FILL EVERY HUNGRY SOUL with good things.
The gospel was made for FELLOWSHIP.
The gospel was to MAINTAIN a CONTACT between heaven and earth.
We are INVITED to this great wedding feast.
Wedding feasts are usually RICH, FREE, and JOYFUL.
The first miracle Jesus did, was to make plentiful provision for a wedding feast.
John 2:7-11 – ⁷Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they FILLED THEM UP TO THE BRIM. ⁸And He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it to him. ⁹When the headwaiter tasted the water which HAD BECOME WINE, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom, ¹⁰and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but YOU HAVE KEPT THE GOOD WINE UNTIL NOW.” This BEGINNING of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and MANIFESTED HIS GLORY, and His disciples believed in Him.
Surely there will be PLENTY of provision for the King’s own Son’s wedding feast.
When the marriage of the Lamb is come, and the bride hath made herself ready, a VICTORIOUS TRIUMPHANT FEAST will begin.
Revelation 19:7 – Let us REJOICE and be GLAD and give the glory to Him, for the MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB has come and His bride has made herself ready.
It is a ROYAL WEDDING FEAST it is the feast of a king. It is not the marriage of a servant, but of the Son. The provision made for believers is not something cheap or worthless, but such as the King of glory would give to princes.
The INVITATIONS to this feast, are the INVITATIONS which are GIVEN TO YOU every time when the GOSPEL is preached.
When you prepare a feast you will have GUESTS to feast with.
God’s guests are we, the people of this world, but what a pity that so MANY IGNORE HIS INVITATION.
The guests that were first invited were the Jews to whom the Gospel was preached. The invitation is given by ministers, who are the servants, that are sent to invite the guests.
What is your reaction on the invitation to come to the feast?
What is your reaction on the invitation to surrender to the Christ?
I urge you to accept the invitation, turn to the Christ, pick up your cross, and follow Him.
