Matthew 13:30 KJV
Let both grow together until the harvest:
and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers,
Gather ye together first the tares,
and bind them in bundles to burn them:
but gather the wheat into my barn.
Devotional
Let them both grow together until the harvest…
It’s not all gold that glitters.
This proverb also applies to the field of the church.
Among the wheat we find also the tares.
Often the weeds seem to grow even faster than the wheat.
The seed of the evil one is quickly growing up.
This is a poignant image… weeds and wheat side by side.
Hypocrites and upright under the same Word, in the same pew, at the same table.
Our confession of faith (NGB art. 29) speaks of the hypocrites, who are mixed in the Church among the good, and meanwhile are not of the Church, although they are in her body according to the body.
It’s not up to us to make the separation.
The Lord Himself will take care of that.
The day is coming when the good and the bad will be separated from each other forever.
For the weeds the fire.
For the wheat the barn.
Here it grows up together.
We don’t have to pull up the weeds and throw them into the fire.
If we would pull up the weeds now, there is a danger that we will damage the wheat.
Until the day of harvest they both grow up together.
Leave it alone, says the Lord.
The judgment does not belong to you.
Oh, how often we are guilty of that.
Let us rather remember that we will be judged.
And where will we be then? In the barn? Or in the fire?
