Matthew 13:9
Who hath ears to hear,
let him hear.
Devotional
How many are hearing, but act as if they are deaf?
They live on, as if they have heard nothing.
- They hear that they are on a journey to eternal destruction, without the Christ.
- But they don’t cry.
- They hear that there is a savior, through whom only their guilty souls can be saved.
- But they don’t go out to Him.
Hearing therefore means even more.
It also means “to understand” what is said.
He who has ears to hear,
▪︎ he hears God’s judgment on his life, and he bows;
▪︎ he hears how terrible sin is, and weeps over it.
▪︎ he hears the great rift between God and the soul, and craves communion and reconciliation.
He who has ears to hear,
▪︎ he hears the great love of God revealed in Christ and breaks under it.
“Behold how great love the Father has given us,
that He has given His only begotten Son.”
To hear also means “to obey.”
How could it be otherwise.
When that love pervades heart and life, the longing becomes great, not to live according to some, but to live according to all the commandments of God.
He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
