Matthew 13:47
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet
cast into the sea, and gathering fish of every kind(¹

Devotional
We must not fish with a rod or a dip net.
You know what is the danger of this? That you’re just a fair-weather fisherman. You will not be found fishing at night or during bad weather.
And you just go fishing in places where you think you can catch something.
But in the sea fish swims everywhere.
Only we do not know where the fish swims at any given time.
▪︎Sometimes you think you will find a lot of fish, but you find none
▪︎Sometimes you think that you don’t have to try it there. But on closer inspection it is a rich fishing ground.
Who knows where the fish are?
Who guarantees us a good catch?
Who will save us for disappointments?
One thing is clear: Jesus tells us to just throw the Gospel net into the sea of people. Because if you keep the net on board, you certainly will not catch a single fish.
We do not have to expect it from the willingness of the fish.
And we shouldn’t have a high opinion of the skills of the fishermen.
Just expect it from the Gospel that it will collect all the fish it can!
We are often too little convinced of the power of the Christ.
Really, just throw the Gospel net out, and you will have a catch.
