Matthew 13:47
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet
cast into the sea, and gathering fish of every kind
Devotional
There are several kinds of nets. The word here points to a large dragnet.
It would be best compared to a colossal bag which was pulled between two boats.
In this way, in a huge mass of water the fish would be caught. Almost no fish had a chance to escape. But in this way there was also bad fish in the net, and also stones and junk.
What does Jesus teach us here?
First of all this: just as the net, the Gospel of the Christ is broad and wide.
▪︎When a fish swims very deep, right at the bottom, it will be caught.
▪︎When a fish swims right below the surface, it too will not escape.
Whoever you are or whatever you are,
▪︎you may have fallen very deep, you may be covered with the mud of sin,
▪︎you may live a superficial, or shallow life,
You can still be caught in the net of His grace.
Not just a neat believer like Nicodemus, a publican like Zacchaeus, not just a dutiful Roman centurion, but even a thief on the cross was caught in the wide net of God’s grace.
If someone says the Gospel is not for me, may I than point out the extent of the net ?!
It extends from the bottom to the surface. It can reach any kind of fish!
