Whoever does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me, says Jesus
Carrying the cross is difficult, painful and humiliating.
But for the true Christian, cross-bearing is inevitable.
As the Savior bore His cross, so should His followers bear their cross.
There are many types of cross to wear.
One has this cross, the other that.
- It could be persecution.
- It could be illness.
- It could be physical defects.
- It can be a son or a daughter who has gone their own way.
- There can be disagreements in the family about obeying the Lord and His Word.
Let this be your comfort, that the Lord knows what cross each of His own needs, and what cross each is able to bear. It has been chosen by Him with loving care.
Rutherford once said, “The cross of the Christ is the sweetest burden I have ever borne: it is a burden to me, what wings are to a bird, or sails to a ship, to carry me to my harbor.”
