Blessed are the gentle,
for they shall inherit the earth.

A secular saying tells us that the brutal own half the world.
It may be true but we hear from the Divine Testimony, who will possess the whole world. And then we are in for a surprise. After all, it is those people who generally do not count in the world, because they do not count in the eyes of others. It’s the meek.
The gentel or meek, what kind of people are they?
▪︎ These are the men who do not become enraged and angry when grievous wrongs are done to them, but suffer it quietly, while laying down their affairs before Him who saith, Vengeance is mine, I will repay.
▪︎ These are the people who look up silently, and believingly, under the greatest injustice done to them.
Of them the Lord Jesus here says, that they shall inherit the earth.
Sometimes this is already revealed in this life, and it is not infrequently the case that especially the meek manage to gather around them a large circle of followers who are impressed by their patience and love.
But the main thing is yet to come.
Soon they will possess the earth, that is, to possess in peace; which promise indeed pertains to the present life, but especially is here meant that which shall be fulfilled in the life to come. (See Psalms 37:11).
