Matthew 5:3 NASB
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Devotional
The kingdom of heaven, how often do we find this expression in Scripture.
Have we ever seriously considered the meaning of it?
In the kingdom of heaven He is the Lord and King, who set us free here on earth.
Of Him it is written: “He who shuts and no one opens, who opens and no one shuts.”
Of His kingdom in heaven we read: “There shall not enter any thing that defileth and speak lies, but which are written in the book of life of the Lamb”.
That heavenly realm includes heaven and earth;
That heavenly kingdom includes the universe with all God’s works.
For the kingdom of heaven is there, where the name of the King of heaven is magnified, and where a poor and wretched sinner learned to stammer the song of redemption.
The kingdom of heaven descended upon Calvary’s hilltop, the moment light rose in darkness to a sinner’s heart and was saved by grace.
▪︎ Such a one as this thief on the cross,
▪︎ Such a one as the tax collector in the Temple,
▪︎ Such a one as a Zacchaeus, who stood before Jesus,
▪︎ Such a one as the Canaanite mother, who did not stopped asking the Lord,
Yea, such are the poor in spirit.
And you, are you still in your own strength?
Do you still see upon yourself?
Do you still expect it all from yourself?
Or do you also want to enter the kingdom of heaven as a child, and as a redeemed person?
Just as I am, without one plea
But that Thy blood was shed for me
And that Thou bid’st me come to Thee
O Lamb of God, I come! I come
Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt
Fighting and fears within without
O Lamb of God, I come, I come
Just as I am, and waiting not
to rid my soul of one dark blot
to thee whose blood can cleanse each spot
O Lamb of God, I come, I come
Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind
Sight, riches, healing of the mind
Yea, all I need, in Thee to find
