Let us open the Bible at the first epistle of Peter and read from
Chapter 1 from verse 13.
¹³PREPARE YOUR MINDS FOR ACTION, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. ¹⁴As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, ¹⁵but like the Holy One who called you, BE HOLY yourselves also IN ALL YOUR BEHAVIOR; ¹⁶because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.” (1 Peter 1:13-16)
In these verses we read that we should PREPARE ourselves.
“GIRD UP THE LOINS of your mind” (AV), or “PREPARE your minds for action” (NASB)
Minds is translated from διάνοια dianoia (pronounced as: dee–an’–oy–ah) and means the mind as a faculty of understanding, feeling, and desiring, and as a way of thinking and feeling.
GIRDING UP THE LOINS, was what one did before he would start running. The long robes were pulled up at the Loins, so that they would not hinder them, when running. It was a PREPARATION BEFORE THE ACTION. Here it says gird up the loins of your mind. In other words prepare your mind for action.
How can we prepare our mind?
Well we must prepare our minds for action.
But the question many ask is: What will the action be?
If you don’t know what the action actually will be, how can you prepare your mind to do that action?
The scouts have a saying: “Always be prepared”. And them is also not told for what. Just be prepared for what may occur.
The same counts for us.
☆ When God brings you in contact with someone to share your testimony with, be prepared to do so.
☆ When God brings you in contact with someone who needs a helping hand, be prepared to give that helping hand.
☆ When God brings you in contact with someone who asks you questions about the Bible, be prepared to answer.
You are not ready when you are not sober, so keep sober in spirit and fix your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ will be revealed.
To be prepared, to be ready for what is coming, also means that you as obedient children, no longer will conform yourselves to the former lusts, which were yours, when you were still ignorant of the gospel, and when you were not yet a follower of the Christ.
Being prepared means that you, like the Holy One who called you, are holy yourselves, in all your behavior. In this way being example to those around you; as it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
Being prepared also means:
• To be ready to give your testimony, it is maybe a good thing to think about all those things that God did for you; so you have them ready when you need to tell somebody about it.
• To be ready to tell someone about the many treasures which are found in the Bible; so it is necessary that you know what they are, and what the Bible says, so you need to read and study the Bible.
• To live a holy life, which is also a part of the preparation, so you need to have contact with the Father and communicate daily with Him.
So let us all PREPARE OUR MINDS FOR ACTION !
