At different occasions Jesus told people to TELL NO ONE.
Matthew 8:4 — And Jesus said to him, “See that you TELL NO ONE; but go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
Matthew 16:20 — Then He warned the disciples that they should TELL NO ONE that He was the Christ.
Mark 8:30 — And He warned them to TELL NO ONE about Him.
Luke 8:56 — Her parents were amazed; but He instructed them to TELL NO ONE what had happened.
Apparently Jesus sometimes did not want people to know things already. While He, at other times told people to go and tell.
Like the demoniac who lived in the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. The man from whom the demons had gone out was begging Him that he might accompany Him; but He sent him away, saying, “Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you.” So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. (Luke 8:38-39)
What reason had Jesus to say TELL NO ONE?
Actually I must confess that I don’t know, as the Bible doesn’t tell us.
• Maybe he said this because He knew what was in the people, saving them from becoming proud of what happened to them?
• Maybe he said this because He wanted to protect the people from the reactions from people around them?
• Maybe he said this because He didn’t want to come in the spotlights to much, as that could hinder Him in the rest of His ministry?
• Maybe… we can keep guessing, but we simply don’t know.
What I do know that this is in strong contrast with the mentality of modern day “faith healers”, who like their actions (even if they are fake) to be advertised as much as possible, and if possible worldwide. Looking for more honor for themselves.
Jesus on the other hand didn’t look for honor, but always gave all honor to His Father, to whom all honor belongs.
Let us as Christians always be careful in following the Christ.
Let us as always be careful, to act and react Christ-like.
And let us never take any honor, or anything else, for ourselves which does not belong to us.
May God bless you, while you continue the journey of your life, following the narrow way.
