Revelation 3:14-22
¹⁴To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this:
¹⁵I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot.
¹⁶So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.
¹⁷Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,
¹⁸I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.
¹⁹Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.
²⁰Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
²¹He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
²²He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'”
Here we see the love of Jesus again!
A love, even for the church chilled by materialism!
Again here in the Bible the call is “Be zealous and repent” (Revelation 3:19)
We must give up the worldly tinsel, and we must buy from Jesus that gold of heaven, the New Life in and through the Holy Spirit.
Buy, with what?
With our old life, with all our lust and desire for that old life. We must hand that in to Jesus “at the foot of the cross”; this is the atonement through the cross in our hearts. We must surrender ourselves completely to Jesus and leave it to Him how He redeems us from the “old life”.
He does not want us to be double-minded about Him. He asks everything from the “old life” in order to be able to make us truly rich with His life.
If He is to share in our life, He must do it with the darkness that is in us, with Satan, and with sin. And He hates darkness, satan and sin! So that’s impossible!
He wants to adorn you and me with white robes, with the “Wedding Garment”
▪︎ We must anoint our eyes with the knowledge of His will.
▪︎ We must be anointed with God’s Word, by the Holy Spirit.
Then we learn to see where we are dishonest to ourselves and to Him
Then we learn to see where we commit fraud!
“Then be zealous and repent!” said Jesus.
The literal translation speaks of “burning with zeal” and repent!
We must radically repent to Him. We can only burn with zeal if we want to let go of everything, and actually come to him!
We must turn away from all our idols; of all things that keep us away from God and come to Him with all our heart.
Our Savior, He will give us so much when we radically repent to Him and open our hearts fully to Him. If we very sincerely invite him to come into our hearts, to cleanse and heal our whole lives according to His supreme will!
Revelation 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
He is knocking at the door of the heart of the members of the Laodicean church …
So he is out of it! Do you live like that, without Jesus?
If we truly lived with and through Jesus, we, like him, would be people of love, fervent in spirit, humble, and meek. We would be kind and merciful, forgiving one another the crimes …
“If any man hear My voice and open the door, I’ll come in to him and eat supper with him, and he with Me.”
He wants to come in and have supper with us, and He invites us to do this consciously with Him. The Lord’s Supper speaks to us of connection, purification, fellowship, redemption and renewal.
Revelation 3:21
He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
He’s giving Laodicea the promise of the throne here; He wants to make the overcomers of the Church of Laodicea sit with Him on the throne of love. It is not rulership as sinful man seeks to rule, but it is rulership like that of a mother in the midst of her children, ruling and yet serving.
Do you remember Jesus’ words when He said:
Mark 10: 43-44
⁴³ … Whoever wishes to become great among you, shall be your servant;
⁴⁴and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all.
He that may dwell nearer to God must give more of the glory of God to those who dwell further from Him, that God may be “all and in all.”
Is it not also the case in the meetings of the Church that the pastor must serve the congregation entrusted to him with the word and with the grace of the Most High, which he must pray for her? In the same spirit, the reign of love will be in the heavens.
That is why the apostles did not call themselves “lord”, but called themselves “slave (doulos) of Christ”!
The pastors are to be first (setting the example for their congregation) humble and meek, “because our pastor (our Shepherd), our Lord Jesus, said of himself, Learn from me that I am humble and meek (Matthew 11:29).
In this way the Lord will mold us into true Christians and let us partake of the Church of Christ.
He will make us partake of the feast of the Marriage of the Lamb, and will put on us the robe of His love and power, and He will make us sit on the throne of love with Him in His Kingdom, which will continue into all eternity!
Friends, the Spirit of God is calling you to repent.
Renounce all idols of this last time.
Listen to Him, and follow Him!
He is calling you to the banquet of the marriage of the Lamb!
